About
Dr. Michael Fleming graduated from the University of Queensland Medical
School with honours in 1986 and completed his specialty in orthopaedic
surgery in 1993.
He was the Director of Orthopaedics at Royal Darwin Hospital from 1994 to 1996 where he both provided
and co-ordinated orthopaedic care for the majority of the Northern Territory.
He returned to Queensland in 1997 and set up a practice on the Redcliffe Peninsula covering Caboolture
and the Northern Suburbs of Brisbane. Concurrently, he maintained a public orthopaedic appointment
at both Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospitals.



Dr. Fleming is an active member of the Queensland Shoulder Society, Australian Orthopaedic Association,
Australian Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Australian Medical Association.
His practice now concentrates on all aspects of the treatment of shoulder and knee conditions.

Surgery
PREPARING FOR SURGERY: Major surgery – Shoulder and knee replacement:
Routine tests such as blood tests and X-rays will be required.
A pre-operative appointment will be made to obtain results and discuss any medications pre-operatively as some tablets should be ceased prior to surgery. You will need to advise the doctor if you have any medical conditions e.g. diabetes, heart conditions, sleep apnoea or any teeth problems. You will also need to advise the doctor if you have any infections or allergies.
At the pre-operative visit the doctor will discuss with you any post-operative requirements such as rehabilitation. He will also check to see if you need any home aids e.g. shower chairs, suitable chairs to sit in, walking aids.
Day surgery:
You cannot drive for 24hrs post operation, someone will need to be available to drive you home.
Post operative care:
- Knee arthroscopy
- Total knee replacement
- Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery
- Total shoulder replacement
All post operative appointments will be made by our office and an appointment card posted to you after surgery.
